The brand
In 1946, Dr. Hotz founded Sothys, choosing a name inspired by ancient Egypt. Sothys refers to a star, the return of which heralded the annual flooding of the Nile.
The brand was built in treatment rooms. It is dedicated to aestheticians, institutes, and spas, and has remained loyal to them ever since.
In 1966, the Mas family took over the House and maintained this principle. Sothys has grown with a single focus: observing the skin, choosing a protocol, and mastering a technique.

Bernard Mas, Founder“Beauty is our passion, science our guide, nature our soul.”
In 1966, Bernard Mas acquired Maison Sothys. He expanded it internationally while developing its facilities (laboratory, factory, Gardens, etc.) in Corrèze.
In 1999, Christian and Frédéric Mas joined the family business. This generation continues the work begun: growing Sothys while maintaining its independence, its French manufacturing, and its bond with professional aesthetics.
His sons, Christian and Frédéric, carry on this work today. This legacy remains active. It nourishes the Gardens, guides research, structures training, and accompanies every Sothys treatment, from the laboratory to the salon.
Some treatments have become benchmarks in this history.
The first Intensive Treatment appeared in 1968. Year after year, Sothys has developed unique treatment protocols through formulas reserved exclusively for the brand's beauticians, who work in synergy with the formulas of home care routines.
The House thus affirms its vision of exceptional beauty, where every detail embodies excellence and expertise.
From Paris to Corrèze, Sothys cultivates a unique savoir-faire, blending professional expertise, research, and nature. Two iconic locations embody the soul of the House: the Sothys Institute in the heart of Paris and the Sothys Gardens™, true sources of inspiration and innovation.
At 128 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the Institut Sothys welcomes clients in the heart of Paris. Renovated in 2023, it also houses the training center. Face and body protocols are performed there in an environment that reveals a certain French art of living…
Corrèze is home to research, production, and, since 2006, the Jardins Sothys™. Four hectares of botanical gardens in Auriac, in the Mas family's village. The local biotope there has inspired exclusive active ingredients, several of which are patented.
At the heart of Sothys' expertise, training supports beauticians in mastering exclusive treatment protocols and expert techniques. Professional know-how is transmitted with rigor and passion, to offer every client a unique treatment experience, combining technical precision, sensory appeal, and well-being.
Training has held a central place from the very beginning. As early as 1978, the school that would become the Sothys Academy™ began teaching estheticians a comprehensive method.
There, they learn how to observe the skin, understand its needs, choose a protocol, position their hands, dose pressure, and adapt their movements. This training gives every Sothys treatment its consistency.
From one institute to the next, from one country to another, the same high standards are passed on: a mastered protocol and expert estheticians.
"In ancient Egypt, Sothis referred to the brightest star in the sky, the one whose rising heralded the flooding of the Nile.
Legend has it that one evening, Saturn fell in love with its brilliance, to the point of disrupting the order of the stars. Venus, jealous, cast it from the sky. Saturn wept for forty days and forty nights, flooding the Earth with his tears.
When Sothis reappeared, she no longer shone in the firmament: she dedicated herself to women, to watch over their beauty.
Men made her a goddess."
